The Montezuma Refuge
Tall slender grasses bow down low to the breeze,
Silty water reshapes the marsh edge with ease
Straight soldier cattails guard the shifting shore line
And dragonflies dart and hover as they dine
There’s whispering and gossip among the reeds,
White and yellow daisies proclaim their good deeds
The milkweed stands stoic in large loose clusters
Water lilies float without even a stir
The red orange sun seeks the dark water’s coolness
Lighting a path to where I sit in stillness,
Gazing in a trance of peace and harmony
Oh, to bottle this scene, take it home with me!
